Clear Sky Manager™

Water & Weather Worldwide makes use of the most recent developments of the ILAP Technology (Influence on the Local Atmospheric Processes),  for managing, at a local atmospheric level, humidity density in the sky in order to pursue a wide range of possible objectives: create precipitation, avoid (or create) snow, disperse fog and smog or, generally speaking, conduct any type of atmospheric action that may improve working/living conditions at ground level.

HISTORICAL  BACKGROUND

The use of ionization for influencing local atmospheric conditions has been studied by Russian academics and scientists since the beginning of the nineteen-eighties. It has been considered a workable and cost saving alternative to the expensive and energy consuming cloud seeding technology, which is widely in use in Russia and China since the nineteen-fourties.

Two main advantages expected from the new technology were the natural energy source developed by negative ions in upwards airflows, as well as the prospect of starting condensation process even in case of low density cloud coverage.

After the break-up of the Soviet Union, various teams have developped working prototypes with variable results - results being difficult to ascertain, no laboratory observation being possible. The first generation of equipment in the nineteen-nineties was built around large monilithic wooden and steel structures with little flexibility. Since the first years of the present century however, a more flexible and adaptable version of the technology has been worked out using light multi-polar ionizing systems.

Good results were observed with this new generation of equipment, although always difficult to measure in real environments.

SOME  TECHNICAL  INFORMATION

The basic principle is the creation of an upward flow of negatively charged ions originating from a high voltage (low amperage) electrical field produced by a system of electrodes in the inner space of the equipment. The permanent working of the system during some programmed sessions maintains an electrical field that speeds up and follows the ions into the atmosphere.

In the course of the upward move of the negatively charged ions in the free atmosphere, numerous interactions with air molecules occur resulting in the creation of new ions as well as in the transmission of energy through multiple collisions. The major carrier and working particles of ions flows are oxygen molecules due to their high electrical negativity. Atoms and molecules of oxygen inside the high electrical voltage field are being transformed into negative charged ions when joining the electrons at their electron shells.

The influence of the ion flow acts as a kind of “fountain” in the ascending part of the stream. It moves up vertically a whole atmospheric column.  It also pushes upward the inversion layer, eventually destroying the anticyclonic character of the atmosphere. The phenomenon enables to strengthen the existing clouds up to the level where condensation increases and precipitations fall down. It also creates favorable conditions for forming new clouds.

The same principle is used against smog, which is a mixture of smoke and fog. Its dissipation is initiated by the ascending airstreams that bring the fumes to the upper part of the local atmosphere, where the permanent movements of air masses take them away.

Another aspect of the “fountain” movement is the descending part of the stream. It is well known that all ascending atmosphere flows create compensative descending flows, which by nature are made of dry and warm air. These descending flows can be used for decreasing moisture level in clouds and prevent unwanted rainfalls or hail in agricultural areas or in the prospect of important public events.

For fog dissipation is applied the ability of negative ions to act as the cores of condensation and attract water molecules suspended in the atmosphere. Water particles that create fog enter a consolidation process. They become heavier and as result fall down to the ground.
